Project Proposal
I plan to use this machine along with other ppc hardware (such as an EFIKA to test clustering on the device such as Moving OS images between machines using Xen (when it becomes avalible) User mode linux (and virtuioso) linux virtual server and other such programsThis machine would also be used for cluster filesystem usage by providing the root FS for all machines over a SAN and to attempt to make all machines (that are binary compatible) share the / directory as well as have all machines on the network mount /home from the SAN. the reasoning behind this is that once done it is easier to maintain all the machines on the network by updating the / filesystem on one and have the update propagated to all nodes (if somthing stuffs up then you will of course crash all machines on the network running off of that / directory)
i aim to test and experiment some of the high reliability and easy managment tools for use in enterprises and give a guide on how to set things up such as SAN\'s (hyperscsi, iscsi, AOE) LVM (easier mangment of storage resources) RAID arrays (linux software raid5/6 over 8 hard drives) and multipath for the clients (if one storage server fails then another takes its place.) and a multi acsess filesystem such as GFS
using the above technoligies i hope i will be able to pull the plug on one machine and have the clients automatically fall back onto a secondary server without manual intervention
