Project Proposal
Gentoo is working hard on getting full multilib support for 64bit systems that support native 32bit execution. This requires tweaks in various places and of course a LOT of testing. Packages that have broken build system must be fixed so that they install their libraries to the correct directory (/usr/lib vs /usr/lib64), wrappers must be written for the ${packagename}-config scripts as well as headers must be replaced by multilib-save wrappers. Target is to enable our users to decide whether they want packages being built 32bit or 64bit on a per-package basis with correct dependency tracking and collision handling.Project Blog Entries
