Project Proposal
goal: allow an application to transparently use a remote smart card reader. The typical application is to authenticate a user using a smart card reader on an X terminal. X11 redirection works for keyboard, mouse and display but not for other peripherals (like sound or smart card reader)

I was initialy thinking about using the EFIKA product for a thin X11 client but I am not a hardware guy and so need a complete system (with a casing, power supply, etc).

I am the maintainer of the smart card framework pcsc-lite (http://pcsclite.alioth.debian.org/), of a generic CCID smart card reader driver (http://pcsclite.alioth.debian.org/ccid.html) and participate in the development of PAM PKCS#11 (http://www.opensc-project.org/pam_pkcs11). I filed a bug corresponding to the above propject in the PAM PKCS#11 bug tracker (http://www.opensc-project.org/pam_pkcs11/ticket/8)

I am also a Debian maintainer.
