Project Summary
The CrabFire high-performance firewall.
The firewall filters spam and e-mail virus besides standard firewall capabilites.
There are many competitors in this field where the #1 would be Barracuda Networks' spam firewalls. With excellent code, AltiVec and other optimizations we can compete with speed.

The prototype is based on a standard 1GHz Pegasos II in a 2U short-depth 19" rack case. The prototype carries two network ports (1Gbit + 1 10/100). With three PCI ports there are no problems to expand it with more independent NIC's for DMZ, WiFi etc.

On the backplate only 2 network ports and a console port are visible. This can be compared to cheap alternatives who use a standard x86 motherboard and you can see printer ports, USB ports and game ports -- on a firewall! That looks not only unprofessional but may also be confusing to the customer.
