i.MX515 Project
P2P TVin category Applications & Software

Project Summary
The idea is simple, but very useful and have a large market. And the implementation is not simple. I am also seeking for funding or collaboration for the development. Contact me if you are interested.
The P2P TV:
Currently, I am using tools like pplive or ppstream to watch p2p Chinese movies or TVs from computer. There have tons of drama on those two communities and they are widely used and well known by Chinese-speaking people worldwide. Google for those two terms, and you will not miss. At this moment, pplive and ppstream are only available from Windows system.
The idea is to use i.MX515 board as a topbox on top of the TV. The box is networked with home high-speed internet, and video output goes to TV. The box, with required software installed, should serve as a p2p client to stream online video and output onto TV.
I was inspired by KylinTV that we have installed at home. It comes with a yellow box and, same as my proposal, requires internet to stream video from the KylinTV server, and the output goes to our TV. It has been great and I can play on-demand program of the past 48 hours by pushing button a simple remote. Yet you have to pay monthly to stream their videos. You have to pay more if you want to add a channel, or to watch some TV/movies they are publishing each time.
The i.MX515 is perfect fit for this application, with both its computing capability and multimedia capability, plus low-power. I am sure I can use the i.MX515 to create a product that is much smaller and more power-efficient than the KylinTV box, and sell it. The most important, because it based on the p2p as the source of video, the people won't need to pay the monthly program fee and as the more people to use it, the better quality it will be (currently, the quality is already very good), and the more program it will add in. We will be able to build a large community of this product, from which other business idea can be developed.
In this project, we can either install a Windows CE on the i.MX515 and then install the pplive and ppstream to test out the functionality. I tend to have a linux-version pplive and ppstream ported (that I am contacting with them). Then we can have the free-linux and pplive/ppstream on the box. The next, we need to customize the interface (screen and remote) to make it as a product.
Thanks very much for your support!

I have been surveying open source p2ptv software that I can use to do this project. Two one them seem interesting: Tribler and MediaBlog. I tends to go for Tribler for this project.
