Overview
This is a proposal for development of an eye tracking mouse. Such devices currently exist, but are expensive and require specialized software. This unit would be positioned so it could capture images of the users head, locate the pupils of their eyes, track them, format the data and return normal mouse data across a USB interface. So it would look to a system like a normal mouse, simplifying its use and requiring no additional software other than a configuration utility to choose methods of detecting mouse clicks and other details.
Existing devices are cumbersome and expensive.

A friend of mine knows a kid who is now a quadriplegic. Investigating what is available for people in his position reveals there isn't much out there. While Vista with the Speech Macros helps, it is still limited. Upon reviewing the available assists, it strikes me that a device which monitors eye position and movements, and appears to a computer as a mouse, would be a easy to integrate device. Add a setup utility to configure the device to round out the required software. The LMX515 seems well suited to the task, with the image manipulation hardware and the built in camera interface along with the USB interfaces, completes the package.
