Project Summary
small enough to fit in the same rack with the equipment it's monitoring! basically: one device for each backbone switch of each subnet in a complex network. each device would connect to a "monitor" (flooded) port on its switch. the software on the device would act as a sniffer node ("sensor") and be a smaller part of a larger monitoring framework encompassing the entire network. in some situations (eg flooded ports) the device would not be able to transmit data - so the usb port may allow a usb-ethernet device to transmit data back to the collector.this is something i already do, but i've never used devices small enough that they didn't have to sit on the floor and get in the way. these little guys would be great!
