Network Bootingin category Other
proposed by genedyne on 8th March 2006 (accepted on 7th October 2006)
Project Summary
Network booting can help reduce end system cost in a connected environment by removing the need for local non-volatile storage, such as a hard drive. A complete kernel and application can be downloaded, and file systems can be remotely mounted, if required.
Network booting can greatly speed development. When coupled with cross-compilation tools, remote file systems, it allows use of common, familiar, potentially more powerfull platforms & tools to speed the build / test cycle when developing a new application.
I will develop a port of the open source etherboot (www.etherboot.org) firmware to support openfirmware network booting (assuming, of course, that it does not yet do this... ;-)
UPDATE: I just downloaded and checked the \"SmartFirmware\" user guide - it appears you already support network booting. Never mind. Cheers.Project Blog Entries
