Wireless Client/AP/Hotspot

in category Other
proposed by michal on 7th May 2006 (accepted on 7th October 2006)
Project Summary
The idea is to use the product to create an all-in-one
embedded wireless system to be used either at the client side
providing the neccessary throughput for the high speed
ieee802.11a radios or for creating wireless access points and
hotspots where the small size and low power consumption would
greatly benefit.

The project would consist of developing a suitable embedded
linux distribution containing the usual software used for
embedded devices such as uclibc and busybox and a web server
which will serve the configuration web interface. With linux
kernel supporting various wireless chipsets and additional
high quality drivers such as madwifi or hostap it would allow
people to use a chipset of their liking.

The goal of the project is to create a possible replacement
for proprietary devices that currently suffer from low
throughput due to the platforms used and restricted
functionality. Using all the software and drivers
capabilities, the possibilities are endless - wireless
routers, adhoc stations, etc.
