Project Summary
As the price of hard drives continually decreses, people are finding themselves with more and more data. Rather than clearing old data to make room for new data, users are simply adding mroe hard drives to their system.
In addition to having lots of stored data, it is very common to have multiple computer systems within a house or office. It is important to be able to access all of your data from any system you use. Oftem times this involves sharing a hard drive via Windows filesharing or Samba in Linux. The problem with this approach is that the host computer must remain on for the data to be available.
With a standalone network storage server, a host system would not be required for the data to be available. An embdedded system such as the EFIKA platform is perfect for setting up a standalone network storage server, that is always available. In addition to making data always available, a EFIKA server could also be configured to take advantage of RAID technologies to allow for data backup and recovery.
To accomplish this a EFIKA 5K2 system would be used in conjunction with Linux to build a network file server. The server would offer Samba file shares, FTP, SSH, and a web based interface for user configuration.Project Blog Entries
