Project Summary
One of the most important stages on the wine making is the fermentation process. However, for the smaller producers there are no real-time monitoring systems that may help them, understanding and having some control on the evolution process of that important stage.
For that reason, we are making efforts to develop a full monitoring system, capable of measuring the most import characteristics of the fermentation process, like: alcohol; PH; solution sugars; colour; Temperature… and maybe other ones. With this helpful tool, the producers will have the power to make some interventions in the process, in order to get much better and foreseeable results.
As we are planning to use an advanced electrical probe to measure the sugar to alcohol transformation, we need to have a very fast analogue acquisition converter of two channels (in the order of 80Msps, each channel) and a fast FPGA to calculate the Fast Fourier Transform, which will afterwards send the FFT results to the PowerPC. With the full range of data (from several sensors and FFT results), the PowerPC will be the brain of the entire system, concerning: measurement, control, data processing and data display.
Regarding the needs of the wine makers, I think that this product can be well succeeded in a short range… and I’m looking forward to start it as soon as possible.Project Blog Entries

Very nice... my Efica's board arrived last week...
...and with the help of an expert on this kind of stuff, I get it working with Gentoo without local disk.
The project is on going... I'll give news ASAP...
Merry Christmas!!!
