Efika 5200B Project
Home Media Entertainment Hubin category Hardware
proposed by daCoops on 20th February 2006 (accepted on 20th March 2006)
Project Summary
Propose to develop an all round Home Media Entertainment Hub, with full support for Audio and Video. Most challenging aspect will be video decompression and video output, possibly using one of Sigma\'s MPEG4 Decoding board as an add on / pass through board.
Initially Ethernet will only be supported, but ideally 802.11g would be used.
Linux will be useed initially, possibly running the MPD music daemon to handle music and MP3\'s with a custom video daemon already written by myself to be adapted and used.
Once base system has been developed, further extensions could be possibly developed, e.g. LCD screen display for Artist/Title Scrolling when hooked to a Hi-Fi, Options for an On Screen Display to be developed when used with a TV, and an addition of infra-red remote control.Project Blog Entries

Took delivery of a brand new Pico PSU (120W), installed a 30 GB 2.5" HDD that was kindly donated to myself, and an ATI PCI card (Current version unknown) and finally managed to find a keyboard that works!
Debian install is now sitting on the HDD, awaiting its very first boot.
Next steps will include:
- Package customisation within Debian
- Possible switch to a different distro
- Deploying Music Player Daemon as initial start for media.
