Efika 5200B Project
networked CD writerin category Hardware

Project Summary
When you have lots of computers (thin clients, maybe) and they do not have any CD drive, or if they cannot write CDs, it would be an annoyance to buy a whole set of writers so everyone can burn a CD.
The aim of this project is to use the EFIKA platform to build a networked box which contains a small linux system on harddisk plus a CD writer, which is accessable by any client on the same network via a web interface (so it\'s OS independent).
I would also do general Gentoo and application development, add to the Documentation and provide remote access to the machine for other developers. Local access by arrangement. QA checking, as far as the hardware has free resources. Might be showing it at certain community events, publish articles etc.Project Blog Entries

It is possible to accelerate the conversion between certain formats, like MP3-to-WAV or vice versa depending on what you want to burn, or bin-to-iso etc. just as parts of the burning process itself via a FPGA.
Also I will add to existing community projects like the Kernel Accelerator Device (KAD) and others.
A graphics card will be needed (onboard or via the PCI-slot) for the display which is planned.
