Project Summary
An EFIKA based home media station to provide:Streaming music
Internet Radio
Movies playback
Gaming (mostly emulated stuff)
Internet
Access to PIM applications (reminders/calendars/contacts)
Misc apps (plugable, e.g. cooking recipies at a touch of a button).
EFIKA will be connected to the main house TV/HIFI equipment. Controllable via either wireless web-based interface (compatible interface for pda/phones) and/or irda remote control (common for household apps). Clean no-nonsense UI through the TV.
Content (movies, music, data) can be based either locally or in an different machine in the house, and provided through wlan/lan.

I know this has little to do with my project, nevertheless I've spent some 3 weeks in Africa and just got back.
Computing in the black continent? Hmm, let me think about it for a bit and will get back to you...
Some early thoughts: There are more serious problems that need addressing first, but if computers where to play some role in solving them, a small power-efficient device would fit perfect.
