Satellite Cyber Café - Security out of the Boxin category Applications & Software

Project Summary
Based on my previous project proposal.There are cybercafé\'s in Algeria operating without any means of traffic shaping or firewall (or even any kind of server, just router+switch to a satellite connection). EFIKA could provide a low cost, secure out of a box solution for these operations.
The idea is to incorporate a firewall/traffic shaper on an EFIKA based design, which would be a plug and play solution (thus without the need of any configuration).
Of course, this system is not limited to the Algerian market. With some minor changes in the security part, it could be adapted to become a home/office firewall. All you do is plug it into your broadband link and you have instant protection of your pc or LAN at home or in a small office.

We're almost there.
We have secured a market for this in Algeria. The software is in final testing stages. The Efika runs this application great and COOL!
We will hopefully begin initial installations in Algeria within a couple of months.
Interest in Efika in general has been very good in Algeria as well. We are already discussing educational kits based on the Efika hardware.
More information will become available as soon as we had a meeting, somewhere next week.

If we want to take advantage of the Algerian Internet Boom, we have to bring at least one of these there over Christmas holiday for demo purposes. If all goes well, we'll manufacture a lot more of these.

While waiting for the EFIKA, we had the opportunity to check the Cybercafé situation in Algeria again. Results:
- More and more... popping up like mushrooms
- No security what so ever, let alone traffic shaping
Since these people rely on the sales of their services, they risk loosing a lot of customers when there is a virus on their computers, or just because one person is using all the bandwith.
Commercial options available right now are too expensive, but EFIKA based systems could allow for cheap and readily available solutions. Not only for these Cybercafés, but also for small companies and schools.

Hi.
The firewall and traffic shaping components have been prepared for PowerPC. Now its waiting for some hardware to test the software.
The system will be Gentoo based, as will all the other projects of ours.

And this is the fourth one accepted.
This project will run in parallel with the "Reliable, Low Power Server for use in Harsh Conditions" project, as both of them will be tested in Algeria.
The planning for going to Algeria has started; our plan is to get there this summer with the two systems and put them to the test in the desert.
Our plan is to have a complete log of events about this trip, with pictures, video, measurements, etc. from start to completion.
Trust me, these projects will put EFIKA truly to the test :-)
