Project Proposal
Porting and further development of finite element code to PPC platform. The code has been developed for more than 5 years during my research work at different universities. It is fully object oriented, which allows for easy expansion and addition of new elements, numerical methods, material models, physical phenomena, mathematical libraries and solution methods. The code has been ported to Shared memory Itanium cluster and network connected AMD64 stations. Further testing and development is needed in order to create a reliable simulation tool for the scientific and software developing community.

Large finite element models are increasingly common in computational mechanics.Obtaining solution using these models requires very high computational power, which is difficult to be supplied by a single processor even with the constant development of technologies increasing the processor power. Currently there isn\'t any fully object oriented package available to the free software community. The object oriented structure allows easy parallelisation due to clearly defined relations between objects leading to clear communication pattern. The main goal is to create a reliable tool for numerical simulations, and porting and testing it to the PPC platform, which seems to be an excellent target due the low power consumption, big computational power and low cost.
