As you could see from previous announcements, I recompile Packman packages for PPC. In the past I tried to compile all of the packages, but now with a growing Packman team the number of packages grew well over a thousand. Lately it became difficult to keep up with the number of new packages / updates coming every day.

As a workaround for this problem, I decided to take another approach. Instead of compiling everything, I recompile only a fine selection of packages (xine/mplayer/vlc) and those requested by the community. This means, that next to these packages, the following are also included: mpd, gmpc, vobcopy, audacious, and for 10.2 kino (there is no kino yet for 10.3). For this selection regular updates are a lot more easy to maintain, and what is more important, I can also test most of the packages, not just compile them.

Repositories for 10.0 and 10.1 are not maintained any more, as there is almost no download activity for them at all. I leave them on-line for a while, just as the previous repo for 10.2, and will remove them at the end of year.

amarok, ktorrent and transcode were added to both 10.2 and 10.3 repositories, and kino to 10.3.

Many packages updated, and xine-ui package is added. And a hint for those, who like the command line (openSUSE users, with apt-get background :-) ), here is how to upgrade packman packages with zypper: as zypper up works only with patches, which are available only for original distribution packages.

Some good news: together with the Packman team, I'm working on integrating my Packman PPC packages with the rest of their infrastructure. As a first step, my Packman PPC packages for openSUSE 10.2 are now available through http://packman.links2linux.de/ and its many mirrors world wide.

10.3 packages will follow as soon, as some minor problems are eliminated. Some of them are already available, as one of the Packman core members uploads his packages 10.3. This overlaps with the packages I compile, and adds some more, he uses.

And as usual: if you miss any packages, which are available in the Packman repo, but not yet for PPC, please let me know!

OK, just realized, that I forgot to post it here (almost a week ago...): Packman packages compiled by me for openSUSE 10.3 PPC are now available within the Packman infrastructure. This means, a server near you, not just here in Hungary. 10.3 PPC has now many more packages, not just those I compile based on user requests.

Just finished testing and uploading new version of packages to spike.fa.gau.hu and to packman servers.

There is one interesting addition to the list of packages: Miro ( http://www.getmiro.com/ , also known as Democracy player). It works nicely on Pegasos, I even could play some HD movies with it at 1280x720 resolution. The bad news is, that it is useless on EFIKA, due to extreme RAM requirements...
