Hi there!

I have a question about some pendrives that work or do not work?!? I've tried 4 so far and only 2 worked (sad news: I lost one of that worked...) Has anyone had luck with a High-Speed pendrive? I mean one that does support 480Mbps, not the 12Mbps that claim to be USB2 compatible...

Thanks in advance
Olivier

are you talking about the Efika ?

I have a question related to it. I tried 4 or 5 usb pendrives on my Efika. 4 of them never worked, the OF see them but it can't list the content (tried Fat and Fat32). I bought a new one a few weeks ago that worked perfectly. In the meanwhile i reformated it on Windows and now it doesnt' work anymore, i can't list the content.
My question is : how do you format your usbpendrives so they can work on the Efika/OF ?
I tried formating under windows, linux, with a HP usb format tool and under morphos without success. i 'm puzzled here.

Hi Thibault!

Indeed, the problem arose on the Efika. The 2 devices that don't work are from Kingston (I hoped a known maker would be supported). The only one I have left is an old "IBM" device (one of these gadgets they bought for their marketing people as free gifts - but that they don't support).

Forum: is it the same problem as no-name USB keyboards (that work sometimes) vs. Logitec (that don't) ? :)

Cheers
Olivier

My 4 year-old 128 MB 'Seitec' stick works. But
I can't list the files, everytime. Only sometimes.

Even when I can't list the files, I can usually boot
from it.

My Logitech keyboard that I recieved with my ODW
only works after a soft reboot. With only a power-
button that makes it, pretty hard..

The USB-support in Smart Firmware is very flakey.
This is too bad since we are totally dependant of it. :(

hi Olivier,

on my side i tried :

Corsair Flash Voyager 2Go -> recognized by OF but doesn't list/show the content.

3 noname (128Mo, 256Mo and 1Go) usb sticks : same

1 another noname stick (1Go) : worked until i reformat it (Fat, doesn't work anymore now).

strange innit ?

Hi folks!

I seem to have made some progress - although I still have to cross-check with our second board here. I managed to open both of my pendrives. The "IBM" one suddenly stopped working but came back on its own (not sure of what happened...)

The big (1GB, High-Speed USB2) one worked for a minute, stopped working... and revived after I mounted it within Linux. I know, it means that if you don't have a working system, my trick won't do... but that's a step.

From my short experience today: hot-pluging is likely to require a reboot. Hot-unpluging is not recommended (that's what I did just before the big pendrive stopped working). Before you unplug... I recommend you halt the system.

Can someone from Genesi comment on this one? ;-)
Cheers
Olivier

I've had no problems with "unsupported" USB drives being seen... when I'm in Linux. I've plugged in and unplugged drives no problem, on both Gentoo and Debian.
I've only really had problems in OF itself not supporting the device natively.

Correct. Now, the fact that you don't see it in OF does not necessarily mean that it is not supported - rather that there may be a possibly temporary issue. We would need more insight into OF to know exactly what's happening... :?

What surprised me, a brand new 512 MB Kingston was not recognized by OF (after formatting it into SFS). Then I've used an old 128 MB pendrive from PQI (USB 1.1 only device) and it worked, I was able to boot and install MorphOS from it.

I've reformatted the Kingston back to FAT under Linux, then it works with MorphOS on Efika, MorphOS and Linux on Pegasos2 and Linux + Windows on various x86 boxes.

The best way to ensure support would, no doubt, be to buy a key and donate it to bplan :)

It's not possible to go out and buy every USB key ever produced and product test it on the firmware. What is really needed is some data.

You should collect as much data as you can about the USB stick under Linux (lsusb -v) and under the firmware if you can do it, and send that data to support@efika.de (the guys at bplan will look at it).

then it works with MorphOS on Efika,
you shouldn't mention that, that's proper teasing ;-)

Matt, I would suggest a dump of the key too (I mean extract the image). From what I've seen recently, there seem to be some side effects when you remove the key while the Efika is on or when you mount it under Linux. The same key may or may not work at different times.

My cent worth...
Cheers
