I had a funny effect while raising my system. As everyone else, I struggled with my keyboards and mice (tried 3 keyboards and 2 mice... and finally succeeded with a KVM switch...) So far, so good: it will do for our next show in Santiago.

Now, I noticed that, if for some reason I need to unplug my KVM, the screen goes blank. If I replug the KVM, the screen comes back untouched.

Is there a way to force the screen to be always on (for instance, send a command to the serial port and display the result on the screen - type "xeyes -display :0")?

Weird...
Because you talk about "xeyes" I guess you have these problems once you booted in your Linux system.

I only had troubles with keyboards in the Open Firmware. But in Linux, I can use a PS2-USB converter or whatever, plug and unplug, and no troubles. No blanking here.

Maybe your X system detects there's no input and blanks the screen? Is there such function in X?

If it has any impact (not sure why it should have, though), the graphics card is based on an NVidia's processor (ATI are nowhere to be found in Chile...). Indeed, the phenomenon happens whether in OF or within Linux.

Sounds like I should carry on investigating.

Unplugging your KVM will turn the display off for sure.. isn't your display going *through* your KVM?

I don't really see that this is "unexpected" behaviour :D

That's a good point :-) But no: when I unplug the USB connector, I just disconnect the keyboard and the mouse. The VGA cable remains in place. Now, if I replug the very same keyboard and mouse directly into the 2 USB sockets, the screen does no come back on...

Any update on the USB keyboard support problem? It would be nice to have the Efika recognize it without a KVM in between...
