Blog Editing is Active Again

My profuse apologies to everyone who wanted to update their project blog in the last month.

Due to a lot of messing around, fixing bugs in the database which were from the old site, and inevitable feature creep, it got delayed by about 3 weeks.

However, let's say it again as I am pretty relieved:

Blog Editing is Active Again

If you have blogs to update, now is the time.

Please remember you can use BBCode (the same code that is used on this forum - with a few minor changes) to improve the look and feel of your posts, and use the Preview button before posting!

Especially for those with images and photographs to include in their blogs and project descriptions, there is a new way of handling images (img bbcode tag) which uses Lightbox, which is an impressive image viewer for more modern browsers. If you are using an older browser (Amiga etc.), then you will just be sent to a raw in-browser image.

There will be some more new project data improvements soon including tasks/tracking and HOPEFULLY everyone will be able to use subversion/git repositories for any code they wish to upload.

Thousands of lines of code have changed around to accomodate it, you should - well, let's be positive and say you will - see some new things by the end of the week.

You may have noticed the Platform Support box got prettier. It breaks in IE7 here for some reason but I am working on that. We are about to start moving Power Developer to a more CSS-friendly layout (one with less hardcoded tables and images) which should improve the loading speed and general efficiency of the site.

If anyone has any CSS tricks or hints they wish to share and let us in on (a feature they would like to see) then I would be very happy to hear them.

Note to Project Users

On the "Accepted Projects" list, the list now makes it known how many blog entries you have. If you updated in the last 3 days, it is big and bold.. if it was 7 days ago, it is just big, if not, a smaller link. Everyone who never updated their blog, WE CAN SEE YOU!

Adding new project proposals will be back over the weekend, as will updating further parts of User Profiles, and some more Platform Support code.

Thanks for sticking with us :)

I've just added a feature which a lot of developers have asked for - the ability to group developers under a single project.

This is useful for example if you submit a project and have a team working on it, so that they can all edit and post blog entries, upload files (this is coming this week) and access subversion repositories (this is coming after file uploads).

The framework which adds users into groups on the current projects needs a little more testing, but since it is such a useful feature and I would like real people to use it, if any developers wish to add other developers to their project in order to access blog editing functions, please contact me at matt(a)genesi-usa.com and have their profile numbers at the ready.

Thanks for using Power Developer,

Hello,

maybe I'm living under a rock, but is there a way to 'connect' a private blog with my project here on powerdeveloper.org? I recently started bloggin here and would like to dedicate the 'efika' category to my project. I know it's possible, because on http://planet.gentoo.org they are doing this.

Thanks for help.

Regards,

-corsair

Attaching RSS-syndicated blogs to the system was an okay idea, but then we decided to keep it in-house - simply because it's easier to track, and keep all the data in-house than it is to have the server continually poke around feeds, pulling out those on an Efika category, and have those blogs go away suddenly.

We want it so even if your Wordpress or Blogger blog on an external site goes down, people can still read your blog HERE.

It's on the list of things to improve, but there's a lot to do otherwise..
