Probably not. A much easier and productive idea would be to customise a Gentoo installation using overlays and building stages and livecd/usb images using Catalyst.

We have two users on the board (frostwork and lisardman) who have done this already, it's a fairly quick job, and the results are pleasing.

After using myOS (and enjoying it) I wonder if Gentoo would play nicely with the SNAP/MGL driver architecture or whether a custom compile job would be required.

I too had thought about it, since I want to build an LFS install on my desktop as an exercise for myself...

But for the EFIKA I am planning to build Gentoo. Reasons being, there is a lot of really good support out there for Gentoo in the community, and there are others working with it on EFIKA already to turn to for help if needed. LFS is intriguing, but I feel that taking that on would only slow down my development. For Gentoo, I have frostwork's build. But it is unfortunately too big for a 128Mb USB stick. So I plan to attempt another go at net-booting Gentoo.

Yet, for the moment I have had success with the Debian Installer using blpan's di_efika image, and am getting my feet wet there. Debian is familiar to me, being an Ubuntu user since '04. Once I have settled a bit on the software environment with the Debian install, I am planning to build an equivalent Gentoo system and do some benchmarking between the two. I expect I can get a faster and leaner build out of Gentoo, but the cross-compiling will be new to me.

If you do decide to do an LFS project on the EFIKA, though, please do share! I would love to check it out.

CRUX PPC is a LFS distro. If you want you can download our CVS and build your own one or simply you can install 2.2.0.2rc1 and recompile base/ ports with your preferred optimization.

In this way you can build a custom and lighter system.

BTW, no feedback about our release candidate from the community...

I didn't know that Crux was a Linux From Scratch based distro. For some reason I thought it was a binary Gentoo derivative. (Shows what I know). One thing this thread had me do was to revisit the LFS pages. And I noticed this... CLFS or Cross Linux From Scratch. Since I have never done cross-compiling before, I think I am going to read through the project to see what I can glean. Eventually, as I stated, I hope to try out cross-compiling my own EFIKA system. Gentoo is still really high on my list, but CRUX has my interest and LFS/CLFS is creeping back on the radar. I just don't want to get too distracted by new and interesting learning curves to explore from simply "getting things done".

CRUX and GENTOO(GNU/Linux) are both source based distros. That's all.

Have you used this on an powerpc platform? There is only an powerpc download on the site: http://www.geocities.com/ze_aks/index.html and i cannot get in contact with the author.
