Hi !

I would like to know if someone got a multi-boot program such as Grub or bootcreator working on his Efika board.

I currently have two Linux systems installed on my Efika (Debian & Gentoo) and would like to install others (MorphOS...).

Under Gentoo, I've tried to emerge it, but found out that it was masked with no keywords. I've unmasked it with all keywords in package.keywords file but it (v0.97) does not compile...

Under Debian I don't see any package for Grub (there are splash packages and disk files but I don't see any program install package. Maybe I'm not looking well ?).

So, I've tried to get the sources from http://grub.enbug.org and compile them under Debian.
With gcc4.x, "configure" was failing so I switched back to gcc3.3 and libstdc++5.3.3. Then "configured" worked and I started to compile, but now I have an error (which seems linked to unicode stuff) :-(

So before trying to go further, I would like to know if someone made it work or if someone is using bootcreator instead (which I use on Pegasos but from a FFS partition with a MorphOS tool)...

And if so, how ? or where can I download it ?

i'm a GNU GRUB fan on x86 system but Legacy GRUB doesn't support PowerPC.
GNU GRUB2 (i.e. PUPA) supports PowerPC but it seems doesn't yet permit a multiboot.

If someone has good news is welcome :D

I didn't build a new menu, but only adjusted my pegasos menu
with a texteditor, anyway i guess that bootcreator works fine on efika.
Its in official portage: sys-boot/bootcreator

I'm going to try bootcreator.
I thought that people such as "Ironfist" or "SoundSquare" had made Grub2 work on Pegasos 2 but maybe I'm wrong...

grub2 should work but i haven't tried yet. I guess bootcreator is still the best option, you can grab your bootmenu file from your pegasos, edit it to suit your needs and copy it to one of your partitions.

I've installed bootcreator from my Gentoo install without any problem.
I've made a boot partition shared by all my distos (only Debian & Gentoo atm).
After changing the boot device and boot file, the bootcreator menu appears on boot.
I can boot from it to Debian or Gentoo but I've got a display problem :
I can see a cursor running from the left to the right of the screen. If I type '1' or '2' I don't see the digit on the screen but the following message "More[<space,q,f?>]" which seems to block the boot process. If I press some other keys it disappear (Enter, ESC)...
Then it boots but not always on the default system, so I guess that my input is sometimes taken in account.
Am I the only one to have this display problem (or maybe keyboard problem ? - I'm using a wireless USB keyboard which is working fine anyway).

I only use Bootcreator on my Pegasos machines.
I see no reason at all to run GRUB when I can
use Bootcreator. Gunne on the other hand is
using GRUB on his Pegasos. I think it's because
Ubuntu requires it or something..

ok i gave a try tonight. I took the menu file from my Pegasos, edited it for the Efika and booted it. It works actually, even if i have the same "cursor madness" than you do. But i can still type a number to make a choice (Debian and Gentoo on my menu) and it boots fine even if i have to press the key several times before it works (same message you've got when it fails)
There is something wrong with the countdown too, seconds are... extended !

I use a wired usb keyboard. The same i use for the Pegasos. I guess Bootcreator is not handling the new OF the same way.

I'll try later to make a new menu file using the last bootcreator update.

Alternatively you could also use a menu made with the "old"
bootcreator (i.e. that one which also works on peg1 & doesn't have a timeout).
This one works without any problems.

There is a Version field in the menu.
Maybe with something else than 1 it works on Efika ?

@Ironfist: sorry I thought it was you. Maybe we should ask Gunne then !

i followed frostwork's advice and tried with bootcreator 1.1, using the option version=0 and it works well, no timer though.
