Hello guys !

So here is my final version of the case, outside (I've several things to think for the inside before releasing inside views).

Enjoy !
Image

Image
Explanations :

there's an USB hub on the upper part, who have 4+1 ports (1 for the CD/DVD drive). The USB wire is the hub ones.

You can see two cases : for those who haven't read my blog, it's the illustration of one of the features I've looked for : the possibility to stake the cases, with only one power button.

Mmmm, the little power connector is for the power supply, I imagine you guessed it ;)

If you have any questions or suggestions, I'm willing to ear it !

Bill> next, I've to finish the inside (probably this week end), then ... let start some manual work ^^ making a negative shape (I haven't choiced yet how to do it, but probably with some CNC maked parts), then using glass fiber to make a #0 box.
Has soon has I've finished, I can send you the plans, just tell me what format you want (I'm doing it with Catia, from Dassault System, actually).

Hi M_O_I !

I find your case nice but a bit high.
Do you also plan to make a smaller case (without CDDrive space) ?

I'm currently using the Efika shipping paper box and everything fits in (Efika board, gfx, HD, Power and reset switches). Only the PSU is external at the moment.
I was planning to buy a 5"1/4 HD case but it is too small (210x130x40)...
So now I plan to make a wood box (the easier to work for me) with the same dimensions (something like 180x130x50mm).
I will add a PicoPSU with an external wire/box (don't know the name in English :-) ).

For information, the case measure are 184x190x98.5 (depth x width x height). As a comparison, a white paper size's 210x297, and a 3"1/2 floppy diskette is 93 ... not that big isn't it ;)

Two more renders of the outside, with an expresso cup, in order to give scale :

I have been forced by the friend who render the scene to show this one :

Beside the joke about this *poor* *film*, it gave another scale reference.

And an inside view, with a "quick and dirty" texturing work (looks good ^^) :

Image

A bit of explanation for this one :
on the left side, upper, you can see a curious shape : it's the USB hub. next to the right, the "big block" is the IDE-USB adapter, the plate jus between it and the cdrom is a "standard IDE / portable IDE" adapter.

For a better comprehension, I'm thinking of posting photos of the "real stuff".

I prefer this size of case. It really looks nice now :-)

If I were you, I would change the blue part for a black or gray one : That would look more "modern". This blue makes me think of mid-90s Apple computers.

I was also thinking that it would be also nice to have a more metallic looking material ? For example I like the Thermaltake cases such as the Soprano metallic one material. Do you like it too (maybe not) ?
Image
But maybe it's difficult for a hand made one with rounded corners ?

At the begining I was planning to use one of those 5"1/4 HD cases (but it's too small in height: 1cm is missing) :

LDLC doesn't accept hotlinking to images. All
we see is a huge LDLC logo. Please link to the
case instead.

It also forces us to scroll sideways.

As a huge fan of Sun'case design, I prefer blue ;) but it's a detail, easily changeable.

Lugdu> ppl can do what they want with his money ... for me, as a prototype, fiber is the best choice. After that, all is possible, it's only a money question ;)

SSq> I'll send one picture to you as soon as I can ;)

M_O_I : OK, I didn't want to be rude with this "material question". I was thinking it was more a question of the material being more difficult to work than an question of price.
I like the case as you've designed it. It was only suggestions.
I don't even know how to work fiber. What tools do you need for that ?
Anyway, I think I'm going to make a basic box-shaped wood case... Maybe it's possible to paint it with metallic looking painting ? I don't know if it exists.
This is the only material I think I'm able to work.

So I'm now waiting for more pictures of your nice case :-)

PS: SSQ, M_o_i, why not opening a french thread about this ?

cuz it has to be international :-) there is much experience to benefit from every Efika user (french or not) interested in this project.

now we can still start a discussion about it at the french Efika mailing list.

oh btw, there is one here : http://www.amigaimpact.org/modules/newb ... 14&forum=1
