There are many resources available on the Internet for EFIKA, but most of these are well hidden in forum threads and blogs. I try to collect these into one large post, which I keep updated as I find new or omitted information.

The primary information site for EFIKA is http://www.efika.info/ ( http://www.efika.de/ for the German speaking). I would uggest even for seasoned Pegasos users to read the 'EFIKA how to guide' ( http://www.efika.de/download/Efika.readme.pdf ) from the beginning to the end.
The Debian installer on this page has some bugs (like: it does not install a bootable kernel), better to avoid it...
The prebuilt kernel on the page is a good start, but has some shortcomings, like it supports only ATI Radeon video cards. The rest of the cards show just a blank screen after loading the kernel.
Another important link here:
http://www.efika.de/download/linux-2.6. ... hes.tar.gz The patches against the 2.6.19 kernel to support the EFIKA (except for sound).
For sound, please see the Gentoo wiki...

Gentoo

http://gentoo-wiki.com/Efika has many good information collected. It has step by step instructions with many examples, has a prebuilt kernel, information how to get sound, etc.

Debian

The easiest way of installing Debian on EFIKA is to use 'di-efika' from http://people.debian.org/~luther/efika/ It supports many video cards.
Information, how to start the installer is included in the howto guide, the rest is standard Debian installation. Using the serial console for installation does not work at the moment.

(open)SuSE

openSUSE 10.2 can not (yet) be installed directly on EFIKA, as it needs some rework in the installer. As a workaround it can be copied from ODW and booted using kernel from www.efika.info
Network configuration: 'yast2 lan' should start up network settings, delete existing devices (via-rhine and Marvell) and add a new one. 'static-0' should be replaced with 'eth0'. Save settings, and everything should work fine.
Update: a lot more new information is available now at http://en.opensuse.org/Efika102

Other distributions

No specific support yet, might work like SuSE, copied from ODW and using www.efika.info kernel.

http://www.powerdeveloper.org

PowerDeveloper has many interesting threads regarding EFIKA. Here are just a few, which helped me a lot:

http://www.powerdeveloper.org/forums/vi ... php?t=1092 : USB does not compile as a module
http://www.powerdeveloper.org/forums/vi ... php?t=1081 : not all USB keyboards work well with EFIKA
http://www.powerdeveloper.org/forums/vi ... php?t=1086 : serial support in recent (2.6.17+) PPC kernels seems to be messed up. To reach the EFIKA serial console use an earlier kernel, a USB->Serial converter or an i386 PC.
http://www.powerdeveloper.org/forums/vi ... php?t=1072 : libata performance is poor, but at least, it does not panic :-)

Other information

http://www.efika.org/ has a regular snapshot of collected information in a single PDF file.

History:
- added another gentoo link

Let's collect as much of this as we can here and we will organize this on a new page with the EFIKA Book here on Power Developer.

[moderator note: you already got one for this idea!]

I did? Where? Hehe. Anyway, websites with everything

OK. We have now Debian, Gentoo, openSUSE, and before holidays there was a lot of related activity on the Solaris and FreeBSD mailing lists. Any news about Fedora and other distributions? Or I should rather ask it only after year end holidays are over :-)

Yes, thats the one. You have to modify the backside for the connectors and drill new holes for the bolts.

But the price is very high - 136$ here in Czech Republic. It's more than half price of Efika...

Well, I paid 89 Euro but I got a nice case in brushed metal with a 80W PSU. I think these small fanless PSUs arent cheap.

Here is my current case solution for the efika

http://www.prowse.co.nz:81

I purchased this case at a local electronics store for $2.50NZD which is basically nothing. I then added the circuit board standoffs that I had lying around. Drilled a 7mm hole in the bottom of the case where I needed them and glued them in place.

The front of the case has a simple momentary contact switch running back to the power switch on the efika. I will shortly add a reset switch (recessed), hdd led and power led to the front of the case.

Currently power is provided by a small external atx power supply. However I will shortly have a pico power supply on order which will make this a lot cleaner.

Once I get my dremel back I will tidy up the rear of the case to finish it off.

The final case however will probably use a pci riser and a FXO PCI card for use with asterisk. Once its running with an IP address and console access it has little use for any video output.

BTW: the pictures linked to here are being hosted on this very EFIKA. If it is down for any reason then it will be for case modifications, relocation etc.

Cheers

Francois
