And, so there it is:

http://bbrv.blogspot.com/2006/11/coffee ... osppc.html

We debated creating an upgrade card, but RoHS made this completely impractical. Plus, even Freescale is not recommending the 744X and some parts numbers have already been discontinued. Many will never be RoHS compliant.

We are going to make something of the EFIKA and the next generation EFIKA SoC which we helped design. It will be ready in June 2007.

Best regards,
R&B

Will the price only be available through the online store?

Well, EFIKA is nice but not really a replacement for the PegasosPPC. For me it is more the Pegasos 8641D that would be my next choice. Do you think this board will also be available somewhere in 2007?

Yes, the price will be available in the online store. The Pegasos 8641D will be sold in 2007.

R&B :)

That depends on pricing of the chips.

The 8641D and 8641(S) are pin-compatible and no board-level changes need to be made to support one or two processors (compare other SMP layouts where you need a "dummy" card or even to replace power circuits depending on processors being installed or not).

So, we could do a production run with half single core and half dual core. We could do it with a range - a nice fast single core, and a ramp of dual-core chips so you can pick your speed and power consumption.

However this is a decision for a couple of months down the line (after Christmas!).

It is a definite possibility though. Some people do not need a dual-core chip, or they may need dual-core, but only want an 800-1000MHz clock speed (at these rating, the chip has a possibility of being fanless). The market will weigh this out. At the first production, we will probably just make one kind, however.

Our product lifetime is about 5 years. So there'll be updates. However with 5 board revisions to think about, testing take a LONG time. Firmware development is going fast and bugs are being fixed, 1.3 will be on the EFIKA and 1.4 will be the next Pegasos revision along witht he next EFIKA update. However, you never know what needs to be done :)

We are still considering a final Pegasos I update. The board technically "expired" in terms of support already, but it is still a useful board and we don't abandon users so easily as some other companies.
