It is true - but there exists a bus service (additional fee) to both Frankfurt Airport and Central Station or Cologne.

Don't go RyanAir.

If you book on Lufthansa or BA Connect you get the same price flight (or even cheaper) without the hassle of a 90 minute bus journey into the place you REALLY wanted to go.

I have a ticket in front of me that cost $79 IN TOTAL if I bought it 3 weeks in advance (one way) - Frankfurt to Birmingham, UK. RyanAir offer much the same ticket from Frankfurt Hahn to a nearby airport, but for $20. Of course then they add taxes on top, and when you get to baggage checkin they tell you that extra bags are 1 Euro per 3 kilos, and the staff are even more mean to you than I am :)

The super-cheap airlines are a total rip-off. Just pick an established supplier, and do your searches through a website like Expedia (they usually offer a little more flexibility on the flights, and late bookings, than the official LH or BA sites). You won't pay much - if any - more, and have a more pleasant, direct journey for it.

And Ryan Air flies from Gothenburg to Frankfurt.. :P
Frankfurt is a nice city. I like it, alot.
Just a short test.

I took to RyanAir's website, and picked a flight on February 15th from Gothenberg to Frankfurt Hahn.

1 SEK for the ticket. 349 SEK taxes, fees and charges. That is not to add on the bus journey into Frankfurt, etc. (3 Euro I think, drops you at the main trainstation, the bus is every 2 hours and takes 90 minutes) and all the hassle RyanAir will put you through. I make that $50 almost exactly.

The same flight through Expedia.com - a nonstop flight from Gothenburh to Frankfurt's major international airport right in the middle of the city, is $109.99. The train journey into Frankfurt city costs another 3 Euro and takes almost exactly 9 minutes (I did that trip a few times in the last weeks :).

So, it is double the cost, but wouldn't you rather fly with Lufthansa and KNOW that all you spent was $100, that your flight would not be cancelled because the staff took too long on their smoking break, that your seat wasn't puked on by the previous passenger and not cleaned properly (mm.. good memories of RyanAir here), that you did not have to get a bus 2 hours prior to your checkin just to make the flight on time, and myriad other horror stories?

Hehe!

Yeah, I know about Frankfurt-Hahn. PUGS flew there
to eSNDF and yes, the airport is faar away. The
bus was 12 EUR to Frankfurt Central Station.

But two years ago Ryan Air was alot cheaper than
the regular airlines. Maybe it's cheaper today.

I know SAS lowered their Europe prices for students
and youths.

Eitherway, we'll be there. :P

Lisardman:
Yeah, the Ice Hotel, I would love to go there.
Would be cool for Cool computing!

For those of you in Sweden/Scandinavia, I've always found SAS through Chicago to be the easiest way to get between Austin and Sweden (I live in Austin). United and other US-side carriers fly straight between AUS and ORD.

It's a slight detour, but Chicago immigration is pretty quick, MUCH better than Houston if you're not a citizen/resident.

Do they still take your fingerprints, make a picture and put you in a file when trying to enter USA? :-P

If this is a poll, my vote goes to the Cologne/Frankfurt area.

Give me a break :D. You won't have any problems getting through customs if you have your paperwork and as long as there isn't some terrorist scare somewhere in the world around that time (which would cause complications no matter where you travel most likely).
