Okay. For some reason I've not been able to get the Marvell ethernet to work. I have the internets connected to the via-rhine in the mainboard and a local network linked to a SMC card (tulip) in the PCI bus. I've been thinking I could take the tulip out altogether, but that would require me to get the Marvell gigabit ethernet working.

How do I do that?

If I take the cord out from the tulip, plug it in the marvell ethernet and try to ifup it, I can. It's HWaddr was set to 00:00:00:00:00:00, but I used some mkpasswd magic and made a new one from scratch, then assigned it with

ifconfig eth0 hw ether <newhwaddr>

But still, I won't get an address from the wlan box hosting my dhcp server (asus wl520g), also, even if I set the address manually, it won't get through.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need some kind of special configuration for the kernel module? There's these 3 switches (port 0, port 1, port 2), I have none on.

Also, I added some lines to /etc/modprobe.d/aliases:

alias mv0 mv643xx_eth
alias re0 via-rhine
alias tu0 tulip

Unloading and reloading the modules did not reassign the cards to those BSD-style names however. Would I have to boot?

If you are getting a hardware address of 00:00:00:00:00:00
your peg has an old firmware (< 1.2) and needs to be upgraded.

That makes sense, my Pegasos is from one of the oldest batches in spring 2004.

Where can I get that upgrade? I tried google, not to avail.
