This works for the EFIKA, the ODW, and other Power Architecture based platforms. All this will tie into PowerDeveloper.

Hi !
What's "MyPowerPC" ? It's new ?

Quote:
MyPowerPC currently provides images for the following Operating Systems:"
Ubuntu Linux Gentoo Linux Fedora Linux OpenSuse Linux Debian Linux
Great !
Where can we download this stuff ?

Question about Powercollaboration : I would like to upload a CD ISO. But with upload button, I don't know the status of it as it can be big. Would it be possible to upload stuff with a FTP account ?

@geoffrey - Pieter will either answer her or email you directly. Creag or Peter will get to you on the CD.

Thanks for participating!

We have started to pick this initiative up again. Working on the text. Feedback welcomed...

Genesi has a comprehensive global strategy that binds together the very top of the open source community with the basic deliverables to end-users who are using low-cost end-user devices in emerging and developed communities. The focus is the EFIKA.

Historically, breaks in this value chain have limited the ability to successfully deploy open sourced based solutions. These discontinuities in the integrity of the development and delivery process occur at every level.

There are six primary steps or levels in the power2people process. At each level the Genesi solution is focused on maintaining the integrity of the environment.

The six steps are:

1. The "Image Factory": The process of designing, developing, integrating, verifying and preparing distribution images of operating systems and applications.

2. Reference Platforms: Tightly defined end-user equipment. Validating images against reference platforms assures that the end-user environment can be transparently managed over the network with no required end-user engagement.

3. Global Distribution: The distribution of images through the Internet. The size of the images and the breadth of the distribution requires the use of replication servers and interuptable transmission protocols.

4. Localization: Localization is a two part process:

a. Provide accurate and timely feedback to the Image Factory on bugs and feature requirements. This is based on clear instructions on those parts of the distribution that should be managed globally and those parts that should be managed locally.

b. Integrate all localization into the distribution. This includes all language changes that are not part of the global distribution and the development and installation of all application templates and scripts that meet local requirements.

5. Open Reference Platform Local Delivery. The local servers and end-user devices that provide local service. These are the same devices that were used as reference platforms for validating distributions. This assures a very high degree of reliability and low local maintenance.

6. Local Support: THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT STEP. Local support has three steps:

a. Work very closely with local leadership to determine specific applications and localization requirements that will deliver immediate and sustainable benefit to the community.

b. Work intensely in the community on initial delivery, deployment and training. Assure that the initial implementation is successful.

c. MOST IMPORTANT of MOST IMPORTANT. :) Provide sustained support that assures the long term viability of the deployment and that supports continuous monitoring of successes and challenges.

Successful execution of this strategy requires a cooperative collaboration environment that can be used by global system architects and local community leadership. This collaborative environment is here at PowerDeveloper. PowerDeveloper binds together all of the activites of everyone involved.

The goal of power2people and the PowerDeveloper is to provide an open source based solution that provides the integrity of a dedicated proprietary solution at a fraction of the cost, complexity and risk of the proprietary solution.

All of the components of this comprehensive solution exist today. Technical resources; operating systems; applications; distribution networks; reference platforms, skilled developers and programmers for both global development and for localization; on-site support for local design, delivery, training and sustained support.

R&B :)

Hi there!

How about some white papers to help the support? Sometimes you have to "bend" the customers view before he shoots himself in the foot :-)

Anyway hope to have some news soon...

Cheers
Olivier
