Ok, now that I have mythtv successfully up and running is anyone able to tell me how to get TV-Out working on using a radeon 7200se ? This puppy only has composite out (better than nothing at this stage)

The only other option would be a DVI-S-video adapter. I see that apple make such a cable for use with the G5's and minimac - does anyone know if this will work on generic DVI outputs? Or is it somehow apple specific ?

This would obviously produce the best video results...

The TV-Out should work all by itself, you need the gatos code, but supposedly
the X.org server has code for this already included. Not tested myself though.

Last time I checked, the gatos ATI.2 driver worked great with
the 7200. I have one in my Pegasos myself.

The best HOWTO for gatos is on the gatos website

http://gatos.sf.net

There is a kernel driver for the video input (km), and a specific branch of the ATI.2 driver for the TV output, which you'll need to check out from CVS. Actually compiling, installing both is well documented in both CVS repositories.

Got the CVS stuff fine, the only issue I have is this line in the install documents....which dosn't make sense...

"To compile CVS you will an XFree86 tree. To find out which one study ati.2/README.gatos"

Ok, so can you explain that line, dosn't make sense.....

:)

You need to get the source code for X so that the ati.2 driver
can find the headers and other objects it needs to link. If
you are running X already compiled from source (Gentoo) then
you may well just be able to unpack the source and compile the
driver. Otherwise you MAY have to drag it out and compile the
entire X server from scratch.

Uh. This would be very nice to get working. I have Radeon 7500 DDR with SVideo TV-out. The ati-gatos package in gentoo seems to be masked for PPC still and i got the impression that i need the sources from CVS anyway so any guidelines of how to proceed in the first place? :)

Notice that i heard rumors that the gatos stuff was integrated in the X.org
tree, so maybe you should try just with the X.org X server.

Hello!
Would it be clever to use the ubuntu-debian-packages of xorg from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xorg/
or better wait for "official" ones?
cheers,
Marcel

I don't know if clever, you could try it, but there is no guarantee that it
works. You could try installing ubuntu on your peg, maybe, it should work just
fine, altough there is no yaboot support in pegasos yet.

These will be post-sarge, and maybe not even immediately, so may be a long
time off.

Alternatively, you can just compile x.org yourself and use that. You just need
to point your /etc/X11/X to the new X server, and maybe adapt a few path in
the X configuration stuff.

Hi, sven!
THX for reply!
I compiled xorg some time ago under debian, it even worked, but that was
another debian and I don't want to compile this monster again :)

Why, it should take you under 4 hours or so, at least that is what XFree86
used to take on my peg :)
