Hi !

As I'm currently writing a tutorial about turning a Pegasos into a Media Center, I had the idea that it would be cool to release a kind of install or liveCD.

So I'm thinking about releasing an install CD based on the minimal 2006.0 CD with an install script and a big "stage4" tar.bz2 file.

The stage4 would contain my current Gentoo fresh install:
- kernel 2.6.15-r8, provided with sources and .config file
- drivers : radeon, ivtv0.4.2 (Hauppauge PVR series TV cards), lirc for hauppauge PVR remote control, ALSA configured for the Pegasos's onboard VIA sound chipset.
- GNOME
- MythTV 0.19 and all available PPC plugins with basic configuration
- MPlayer and other video & audio players (vorbis, mpg123...)
- Other basic stuff (MySQL, Python, Perl, xmltv, gparted...)

Note that it's an old kernel, but it's the only one that seems to support ivtv drivers today :-/

So this CD wouldn't be as "cool" and as "big" as Frostwork next "emedia", but it might help to start playing with Gentoo + MythTV with a <700MB CD.
I've tried to backup/restore my system on another partition and it seems to work.

So... What do you think of it ? Is there anyone that might be interested (or not). The problem is that I'm not sure I can upload a big 700MB file on my website.
Maybe on PPCZone or on the new Power website ?

This would be terrific. I would advise you to speak with Pieter from Genesi as he can help with this i'm sure and possibly add in some of the work he did with optimizations with Altivec and such..

magnetic

ps I had got Mysql, Mythtv .18, and IVTV 4.2 working together and can watch live tv near realtime - but the recording aspect would segfault on me.. Also, I could not compile .19 here, so i'm certainly interested in a working Gentoo solution.

Hi !

On my first Gentoo install, I've used a ppt doc from Pieter Van den Abeele (Genesi) & Sergei Larin.
I was having much troubles at the begining. This was due to a misknowledge of the Gentoo system.
It's really powerfull. On this third install from scratch I had no emerge problems (so I guess I'm better than before).

If you are interested I will upload this CD.
The only problem now is its size.

Cool idea, geoffrey! :)
For upload you maybe could ask gunne from pegasos.org -
he seems to have a lot of space ;)
cheers,
frostwork

Excellent! LEts get this sucker up. I think maybe this site can host a torrent or so? Gunne would be great as well. This will be a cool cd for Pegasos. Do you have a name? ;-)

ps

Get it up ASAP! I want to test it. :-D

Well as I said, it won't be as cool as Frostwork's LiveCDs. It's a kind of snapshot of my current MythTV basic install : it's just an install CD (I don't want you to be deceived) with all the stuff that you can install if you follow my tutorial.
It's not yet finished (Gatos patch not applied, LIRC not working).
Anyway I can upload current version if you want...

For the space, I have 1Gb by website on free.fr but the problem is the size of a single file... Maybe I can split it with zip or something else.
I must try.

For the name, well I haven't found a good name yet. If someone has a good idea.
I would like a name bringing the ideas of MythTV and easy install on Pegasos.

So current ideas are :
- Gentoo PegEZ
- PegMythos EZ
- Easy PegTV
- Pegasos MythTV
- ...
Well I'm not really inspired :-(

Something cool, would be to turn it as a LiveCD.
I don't know how I could do that easily (yet)...

Ok. I'd like to try the current ver. I have a 13gb partition open to install. I can configure LIRC and other stuff probably, and emerge what i have to as well..

OK, I'm going to upload it "as it is".
There are some features not working yet : 3D, lirc, TVout, french xmltv...
When you will have the CD, you will be able to help. So we might get fastet to a result ;-)

I'm uploading it. Hope that it will work...

Try to upload it in more than 2h30 from now here :
http://pegasos3d.free.fr/ezpegtv/EZPegTValpha0.iso

It should be a ISO file of about 615Mb.

Hi! I downloaded and burned it.. but there are some issues.. I can read the "readme" text file but the other text files are some weird format or something I cant read them... also

1. What are the boot args please?

2. What is the Md5 sum ?

3. Can you post the text files somewhere?

Thanks

magnetic

I would love to play with this install tonight!

sorry it did not work (only 171Mb on 615Mb)...
Trying again (but I'm not at home today)...
If it works, it must be 615Mb and there is an install readme file inside (I hope you did use a RW CD).
