It's not yet downloadable, but SUSE Linux 10.1 is ready! Please read the announcement at http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opens ... /0001.html

You will be able to download it from end of next week, probably a bit earlier.

Have a nice weekend!

I just finished installing 10.1 final. This message is already posted from that. It runs really fine :-)

Before any questions:

- yes, I have access to the final ISO files
- no, I can't share them before they are officialy released

Not before release. I already have 2 x 100mbit torrent seeders up and running, but the torrent files are not yet published. A full mirror of 10.1 just became ready on the Hungarian mirror I maintain, but permission on the directory is 700, just as on the source. Two more days. Sorry...

The torrent files became public due to the error of an ftp admin, so my seeders ar serving with full speed :-) I can now provide any of you with a torrent file by e-mail.

And it's also released now! See announcement at http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opens ... /0003.html which tells you all what's new and where can you download it.

I wrote some extra documentation about SUSE Linux 10.1 on Pegasos and ODW, but I can't tell you the exact URL at the moment, as the openSUSE wiki is turned off due to the number of requests. It's linked from the bottom of this page: http://www.opensuse.org/POWER@SUSE when it becomes available again.

A large number of Packman packages are already compiled for SUSE Linux 10.1 PPC, but there are 50+ large software packages, so it takes some time to recompile all of them with the freshly released final sources. A download URL will be posted here tomorrow or during the weekend. If you don't know PackMan, take a look at http://packman.links2linux.org/, basically a collection of high quality mainly multimedia packages, which were not included in the official SUSE release due to legal problems (mp3, divx, etc.).

I expect you to have troubles with the package manager. I did not have any recently, but the openSUSE mailing list is full of complaints. The new packaga manager has a lot of interesting featuers, unlike previous implementations, it works fine from the command line, but it's slow and is a resource hog.

Another problematic package is beagle, the new desktop search engine. 'locate' and 'updatedb' was removed from the default installation a few years ago, as it did more confusion than use, now a more resource intensive application was introuduced and enabled by default...
