I wanted to install Macromedia Flash player on my Linux Ubuntu but it does not seem to be working very well.

So I tried these :
sudo apt-get install libflash-mozplugin

And also :
sudo apt-get install swf-player libflash-swfplayer
or :
sudo apt-get install mozilla-mplayer

And it's still not working very well :/

Any idea ?

I'm afraid you're out of luck. Flash support is very limited on ppc atm. There is gnash but that project is still very much in its early stages.

Yeah, flash works *sometimes* PPC flash is very alpha.

Is it a Linux lack of support or a PPC lack of support problem ?

Macromedia lists an official Flash player for Linux on their webpage (version 7 though). I haven't looked at it, but I suspect it is a binary release for x86 only (as usual, when Linux is supported by big companies).

Next to Java, Flash is a very important component for web browsing (and also for other kinds of applications). Now when Genesi has obtained official support for XGI graphic cards (meaning official and optimized gfx drivers for the first time), maybe a new challange would be to convince Adobe/Macromedia to do a PPC binary release of the latest flash player?

Yes it is a specific PPC Linux problem. Apparently the x86 one is OK. As usual PPC gets left out Not a big enough user base for the major companies to care I guess...

is gnash: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/

Features include:
Firefox plugin
Gnash can also run as a plugin from within Firefox.
SWF v7 compliant
Gnash can play many current flash movies.
