well first sorry for my bad english.....
i have debian sarge with 2.6.8-powerpc i have a DLS Provider 1&1 and i can use network true Fritz.BOX SL Wlan on a standard lan connection.
the box use dhcp to assign the route nad ip adress....so for now i can use internet in linux perfectly... with dhcpcd

also i have installed ipforwd and dnsforward-----
when i start mol tun is assigned and i have :
ethn1 , ethn2 and ethn internal in OS-X
i made my settings in OS-X using dhcp and also i tried manual configuration with 192.168.178.24 as IP (linux has 192.168.178.23)
router 192.168.178.1 ( given by Fritz.Box) and same for DNS....
but nothing always i have no connection to internet..
so i tried to píng my OS-X adress it works ..then i tried to ping linux IP: " host down" !
viceversa from linux to mol ..: " host down "
anyway i tried almost any possibility and any tips from
mol-list.org ...................argggggggggg dont work

i'really need some help now ,,,i treid to write to samuel ,.,from mol but no answer,.,,

I think the problem is that none yet found out about this forum which has the experience of MOL. Nicolas Det and Thomas Morris come to mind as people who made this work.

Could you please paste the output in console from MOL when it starts? ie. at least the networking part.

here's my output for reference and it's using the Tun interface too :

From what i understood your problem is maybe that you dont have IP Forward/NAT stuff compiled into kernel so it can't route the packets anywhere from the MOL. Or i read wrong...

But the log would be a good start! 8)

# declaration for that client must be given which does not have a fixed
# address. If a client should get different parameters depending on
# what subnet it boots on, host declarations for each such network should
# be given. Finally, if a domain name is given for a host's fixed address

# corresponding to the network to which the client is attached, if any,
# will be assigned.

Ok that helped a lot!

your dhcpd config file doesn't have the necessary declarations for the subnet TUN is using.

You use the dhcpd all the time in the Pegasos for other machines in your LAN?

In my case MOL uses the /etc/mol/dhcpd-mol.conf file for the dhcpd and if you dont have it my guess is that it maybe tries to use the default provided with the dhcpd which does not have that MOL specific stuff in it.

Here's a snipped from my /etc/mol/dhcpd-mol.conf file :

-----------------------------------------------

# -*- perl -*-
# DHCP support for the MOL client
#

# By default, the tunconfig script extracts the name server
# from /etc/resolv.conf and uses NAT to redirect DNS
# requests to the tun gateway (e.g. 192.168.1.1) to this server.
# An alternativ is specifying the DNS servers below
# (remember to comment out the DNS lines in the subnet
# declarations).

#option domain-name-servers 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2;

# Newer dhcpd versions require the following line
ddns-update-style ad-hoc;

# Support up to 10 sessions (each with its own tun interface)

subnet 192.168.40.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
option domain-name-servers 192.168.40.1;
option routers 192.168.40.1;
default-lease-time 604800;
max-lease-time 604800;
host mol0 {
hardware ethernet 00:00:0D:EA:DB:EE;
fixed-address 192.168.40.2;
}
}
subnet 192.168.41.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
option domain-name-servers 192.168.41.1;
option routers 192.168.41.1;
default-lease-time 604800;
max-lease-time 604800;
host mol1 {
hardware ethernet 00:00:0D:EA:DB:EE;
fixed-address 192.168.41.2;
}
}

---------------------------------------------------

So in my case when i start MOL it gives the first ip 192.168.40.2 for MacOSX.

IF you use dhcpd for other than MOL in your Pegasos then you must add these to the dhcpd.conf, but be warned that here i have to kill the dhcpd server after i quit MOL and want to start it again. Also make sure you have the NAT stuff compiled into the kernel.

After that MacOS should be able to use the internet with dhcp enabled.
hopefully :-]

Been away for couple of days. sorry for delay :)

MacOSX should find the IP address with DCHP also. And i didn't paste the whole dhcpd-mol.conf file since it should've come with the MOL package already.

There's still now something wrong with the dhcpd starting. Is dhcpd already loaded before you start mol for the first time?

Linux init.d probably starts it already in the boot?

Can you upgrade the dhcpd to the
Internet Software Consortium DHCP Server V3.0pl2? Same as i have.

Also the dhcpd_mol.conf file should be located in /usr/doc/mol-0.9.70/config/ directory.

In the parent directory there is also the Networking help file which explains the Tun networking in detail.

There it says at least that if your pegasos linux box acts as a firewall machine it would need some tweaking in the tunconfig file.

fromt the Networking help file:
The following kernel functions should be compiled into the
kernel (or be available in the form of kernel modules):

For the dhcp server:

Socket Filtering (CONFIG_FILTER)
Packet Socket (CONFIG_PACKET)

For NAT:

Network packet filtering (CONFIG_NETFILTER)
Connection tracking (CONFIG_IP_NF_CONNTRACK)
IP tables support (CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES)
Packet filtering (CONFIG_IP_NF_FILTER)
Full NAT (CONFIG_IP_NF_NAT)
MASQUERADE target support (CONFIG_IP_NF_TARGET_MASQUERADE)

You can check whether the kernel has NAT support by doing:

/sbin/iptables -t nat -L

as root.

You can check whether the kernel has NAT support by doing:

/sbin/iptables -t nat -L

The standard debian kernel has :
Code:
CONFIG_PACKET=m
CONFIG_NETFILTER=y
CONFIG_IP_NF_CONNTRACK=m
CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=m
CONFIG_IP_NF_FILTER=m
CONFIG_IP_NF_NAT=m
CONFIG_IP_NF_TARGET_MASQUERADE=m
So all options are present except the SOCKET_FILTER one, which i didn't find in the config file at all. Indeed i could not find it in the 2.6.8 config file menu, so i guess it sorta dissapeared.

Now, all those stuff is modular, so supposedly it is either automatically loaded on need, or if not, you have to load it yourself by adding the modules to /etc/modules. Check with lsmod if it is loaded by MOL.

Friendly,

Sven Luther
