When i get my hands on an efika i first plan to write a series of tutorials on the hardware because the efika book has not really made many releases. And like you atm i have absolutely no idea about the efika platform. but i hope to get the 4U2 platform for my project to keep development on a platform as similar as possible to the final implementation.

Indeed documentation would be good. I starting thinking about how hard would it be for the efika to be emulated in something like PearPC. An emulator would be a good way to let people to try the hardware and develope for the hardware even if they don`t have access to it. It would be usefull when a team has only one board to work with, but maybe six people working on different task.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not, but you must understand that I can't make any release until I have received my board and made a few tests.
That's why I created this thread : to try to get a few infos before receiving the board...

Of course any tutorial of help from 3rd party will be included (if you agree of course) as I did for the Pegasos book !

Is there any word on the maximum power-consumption of the system (including RAM, excluding any add-on card, hard-disk or USB devices)?

I've just noticed the picoPSU - the size is right, but at 80 or 120 watts it seems like it might be overkill. While it's not a huge amount of money, it's certainly one of the more expensive DC-DC ATX power supplies around, so I'm wondering just how low we can go with the power-supply's capacity.

the PearPC devs completely don't seem interested in emulating the EFIKA...

sorry geoffrey but i was telling my opinion. But now i see youve made a release. I actually thought some people would have an efika by now, and a lot of these details wouldnt be up in the air. But ive been looking at the pdfs for the board the efika has been based off. im assuming that in most aspects efika would be the same.

Do you have a link on those PDF you are talking about ?

The 5200B uses about 0.8-1.2W in operation, with USB and ethernet turned on.

A hard disk would add 1-3W to it.

A Radeon PCI graphics card (9250 or so) would take anywhere between 5W and 15W depending on operation.

80W sure is overkill but you don't get smaller these days. It would also be better to keep the power supply well over spec in order to make sure voltage supply is clean, and system reliability is high, than to run something at it's limit.

I hope the Efika is much smaller than that board. mATX isn't that small.
