The third beta of SUSE Linux 10.1 has just arrived. One can download it from http://www.opensuse.org/Development_Version#Downloads.

Installation instructions are available from http://www.opensuse.org/POWER@SUSE. Most annoying bugs are availabe at http://www.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs.

I'll share my experiences as soon as installation is over...

Is it possible to download only an update from 10.1 Beta2 to 10.1 Beta3? Downloading 5CDs againg is too much, I have a limited traffic :( My Pegasos isn't connected to internet.

Yes, it's possible. Just go to your favorite openSUSE mirror ( like http://roxen.integrity.hu/pub/opensuse/ ... delta-iso/ , but it's slow from outside Hungary) and look for delta iso files. It needs some computing power to generate real iso files from old and delta iso-s, but a lot less bandwith (about 200MB instead of 3G).

Use of delta iso files is documented at http://en.opensuse.org/Download_Instructions

Finally it's installed on my Peg and have some experiences. So, here is a quick look at the Pegasos / PPC related bugs I reported in my previous posts.

The BusID bug is still there, so X does not start until you fix it in xorg.conf in the Device section. It's not yet fiexed and developers seem to be hopeless (bug exists only on Pegasos, not on other PPC machines)

There is a number of bugs, which are fixed, but the fix will apear only in beta4:

- GNOME blurred screen
- scroll lock / console switching problems

Please don't report these, but report anything else at https://bugzilla.novell.com/enter_bug.c ... Linux+10.1

As with the previous beta, fontconfig is broken again (see most annoying bugs). Fixed versions are available at http://en.opensuse.org/Download_Instructions
After installation please run:
Code:
fc-cache -f
This will result in great speed increase for X applications :)

One more note: please don't report OpenOffice.org problems, as the PPC version was not updated for a long time now due to some glibc problems on PPC. There is already a proposed patch for glibc, so an OOo for test will be hopefully there already next week.
