So, tonight I was trying to install Wheezy (current testing, soon to be stable) in my Efika smartbook.

What I did was:

1. went to the relevant debian page
2. downloaded the netinst image for armhf
3. used gparted to create a boootable SD
4. dd if=thatiso of=/dev/sdc1
5. plugged the SD into my smartbook
6. reboot

Alas, that did not work (I boot into GDM, which means the Debian installed into the SDD).
It seems the boot is taking a bit longer when the SD is inserted.
I tried the SD slot and the MicroSD one, both unsuccessfully.

What should I do to install Debian stable via the installer?

Looking at the Debian ARM HF wiki page at http://wiki.debian.org/ArmHardFloatPort I found, that "For the official debian port freescale IMX53 quickstart boards donated by linaro are currently being used."

Thanks for the info. Does it mean that it can't be installed on a imx515? Can someone @ Genesi confirm this?
It would really be awesome to have a working installer (to customise installation, encrypt disks, locale, etc etc easily).

I just saw the news i think i'll try when at home i'll be.

Regarding the last edition of the wiki page [1] i think they didn't update it with the news Debian release.
Code:
ArmHardFloatPort (dernière édition le 2012-08-20 20:13:45 par PlugWash)
Also, encryption and an easier installer could be awesome.
I saw that there is some version dedicated to the efika.
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/ ... nt/images/
But which one choose : netboot or network-console ?

I'm using the installer from http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/ ... e/efikamx/ at the moment. Installation is still running, so it's not yet a success report :-) I put it on the first ext2 partition of an SD card. Then booted my EFIKA MX. The installation process started on the serial console, but after sufficient information was gathered, it started an SSH based installation.

Until now I ran into a single problem: the installer only offered the SD card as target for installation. But it's not a big problem for me, as I use NAS storage instead of SD cards anyway...

How do you launch the installer ?

You copy the uImage, uInit... files on the SD Card only ?
What have you do for the rootfs ?

If i understand it's only running on the SD card, we can't install it on the SSD, isn't it ?

Yes, I just copy those files to the first partition on the SD Card. boot.scr takes care of the rest (starts the installer). The SSD is not offered by the partitioner. And I ran into another problem: the installer wrote that there is no available kernel to install. So I wonder if I'll be able to actually boot the machine..

I just had some time to look at it: it's not possible to boot it after installation, as the boot partition is empty :-(
