Hello,
I need to get the machine's model info for a Linux ppc64 on iSeries,
generally I find this info in the file "/proc/device-tree/model", but for this kind of machine the directory "/proc/device-tree" doesn't exists.
I looked also at the file "/proc/iSeries/config" but the model info is missing.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you enable "CONFIG_PROC_DEVICETREE=y" in your kernel?

PS: Sorry for asking the obvious - no offense meant ;-) I just like to forget some things too from time to time.

Do I have to recompile the Kernel in order to set "CONFIG_PROC_DEVICETREE=y"?
This is a customer machine and I cannot change the Kernel configuration
Is looking at the file "/proc/device-tree/model" the only way to have the machine's model?
Thanks for the help.[/img]

I don't know if there are other possibilities to get these informations. I only know how to get the device-tree into the /proc fs ;-)

If it is not compiled in (look into /proc/config.gz if the support for this config-file-in-proc is enabled) then you will have to recompile and reboot the kernel, yes :-(
