I have made the update of debian armhf unstable for Efika Mx,
and after that I have installed the
Code:
linux-image-2.6.31.14.27-efikamx_33456102+sdmafix_armhf.deb
and
Code:
linux-headers-2.6.31.14.27-efikamx_33456102+sdmafix_armhf.deb
everythings work good except that it doesn't permit to mount usb storage and sd card any more.

I have tried even installing the last kernel :
Code:
linux-headers-2.6.31.14.27-efikamx_33456102+sdmafixandblfix_armhf.deb
and
Code:
linux-image-2.6.31.14.27-efikamx_33456102+sdmafixandblfix_armhf.deb
and the result was worst , the wifi simply doesn't work and looking at dmesg when I switch on the wifi dmesg show wifi switched off ,and when I switch off it show switched on...

dmesg output when I plug the usb storage:
Code:

So now I must try reinstalling the kernel without fix to check if the OS will be able again to correctly mount the usb storage.

I can't reproduce this on my end. does the root fs get mounted at all? or basically noting USB including the keyboard works?

it's possible you ran into the same problem as with this recent post here. Try that fix and let me know how it works out. http://www.powerdeveloper.org/forums/vi ... hp?p=16600

I have updated my post with more info, before I have read your answer.
I have even installed the older kernel with a worst result.
I have tried with the sed on udev as you have suggested , but after that some start to happen that some time the keyboard on startup doesn't work.
The sd or usb storage that doesn't mount are fat type, the ext4 type mount perfectly.

I just built a new armhf SD card using the install-armhf script located at http://github.com/wschaub/install-armhf I'm booted off of it now on my smartbook and I'm not encountering any of the problems you are reporting. Including when mounting a FAT formatted USB drive.

I think the best option at this point would likely be to just use the install-armhf script to start over after backing up any data using a working image.

http://library.powerdeveloper.net/index.php/Debian should have information on using my install-armhf script.

Just in case you already tried it (and failed) I just pushed a new commit to the git tree for install-armhf that fixes building on squeeze and older images.

The "problem" that I have met is that I have found that squeeze desktop-efikamx20120526.img.xz is a an image file to put directly to the ssd or in my case I have mount with the loopset on a directory , after that I have put inside the install-armhf.sh with git clone and after that I have launched that script, but after the installation is ended and I have restarted only debian without X starts.

http://steubentech.com/~talon/Efika-MX/ ... exp.img.xz should boot directly into an up to date armhf image I just made today. It's not the final one I will be putting out soon but it should work just fine and have all the fancy gpu stuff installed. There is a compat-wireless .deb in efika's home directory as well in case you need it. just log in as efikia and use efika as the password and you should be all set.

I have downloaded your suggested image put on sd ( with unxz and dd ) and boot my smartbook with the sd, connected to the network
I have make
Code:
sudo -s
with the password efika to have the root permissions then:
I have installed git
Code:
apt-get install git
then I have launched
Code:
git clone git://github.com/wschaub/install-armhf.git
for download the last version of install-armhf;
then I have installed the needed pakages:
Code:
apt-get -u install debootstrap parted pv
After that I have write
Code:
cd install-armhf
and then launched
Code:
./install-armhf.sh ssd /dev/sda
for start the installation on smartbook ssd.
During the installation it ask me the password for root and the name and password to create.
When I reboot the OS work perfectly!
And the OS mount nicely usb storage!

Now look like working "out of the box" , without any other actions, that's very fine!

Remain a problem, after going in suspend mode , when it come back the keyboard and touchpad are not working, even if I attach via usb a mouse.
With mplayer ( and it's gui) I can play video fast, but without resize on full display. Where I'm able to resize it goes slow.

But if I install the imx-essential using the steps on chapter to "Add 2D/3D drivers, suspend, brightness regulation" of this wiki http://library.powerdeveloper.net/index.php/Debian i lost the possibility to watch videos with any players ( vlc, xine, totem, mplayer, etc...)

For investigate on the suspend problem here a piece of messages log.

I think I know what the suspend problem is. I'm writing the exp image to a spare SD card to test. I thought I had that fix as part of my install-armhf script.

as far as the video playback thing goes though. does xvinfo show anything after you have imx-essential installed?

I found what was needed to do,
after install imx-essential is needed to tell to xorg that must use imx drivers so , as was already descripted in an old post of Kostantinos, I have created the xorg.conf file on /etc/X11 folder,
with this contents:
Code:
Section "Module"
Load "extmod"
Disable "dbe"
# Disable "glx"
Disable "dri"
Disable "dri2"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "IMX"
Driver "imx"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Option "Backend" "Z160" # can be Z160/Z430
Option "Compositing" "off"
Option "XvBilinear" "on"
Option "XvDoubleBuffering" "off"
EndSection
Then I have restarted and now xvinfo si fine and the video plays perfeclty and even the imx animation demo are very fast!
Code:
xvinfo
X-Video Extension version 2.2

Adaptor #0: "Freescale i.MX5x GPU (z160) Overlay Scaler"

I tried that xorg.conf on my system (an efika mx smartbook). Been trying to get *something* useful up and running for a while now. I have imx-essential installed as well. The video playback was a little better (unless you try to do more than one thing, then the whole video playback slows down to a crawl). The worst news though is that while it helps the video the sound gets badly distorted with VLC (mplayer dosen't seem to be affected) x.x
