Hi,

I interrested by the Efika MX Smarttop. I'm looking for a low cost linux web server with JVM but which demands quite low administrations skills. I already use quite easly linux on x86 laptop but I have some pain with u-boot and other stuffs on an openRD :? I feel that efika's are more easy to manage and have more active comunity.

X86 laptops are ok for what I do but I have problems in some installations. If we cut the power to long, the battery runs out and it don't boot by itself when the power come back. On desktop PCs, there are options in the BIOS like "wake on RTC" or "wake on power back" I would like to use and never found in laptop's BIOS. I know there's no bios in efika ( right ? ) but is there this kind of options ? What about efika laptops ?

Since the smarttop has a power button, I think it won't boot as soon as I plug the power. Is there a hardware hack to make it possible ?

Hi, I don't think it is possible using software to do this. I would love to see if someone can come up with a way to do this in hardware though. I'm not a hardware guy so i can't really comment too much on what is or isn't doable. The rest of this post is just speculation.

I do know the debug board lights up even when the system is turned off so there might be a way to wire up something that briefly hits the power button contacts when the machine is plugged in for the first time. (most likely would void any warranty you might have though)
