I am not new to Linux (though I'm surely no expert), but I am very new to the Efika MX world. I would like to install Skype (2.2 Beta) on my Smartbook, but I expect I need a version compiled and configured for my system. Is one available? How do I get it?

Hi.

Skype is not supported on the EfikaMX. While there are Arm versions available for Nokia Maemo, these will probably not work on Ubuntu Linux we ship.

The only option you have is run Android on the EfikaMX and use the Skype version for Android. We tested this only briefly, with limited success.

Thanks for the quick reply. Let me back up and explain the context of my question -- maybe someone will have another solution.

I'm planning to travel internationally (Iceland, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Thailand, Laos, Mexico, elsewhere in Latin America, and ???) and have purchased an Efika MX Smartbook to stay connected. I don't plan to have a mobile phone with me, but I've been thinking that it will occasionally be helpful to be able to contact people by phone -- so I was looking for a VoIP solution (mainly PC-to-landline or PC-to-mobile). Video is not essential.

I'm old-fashioned (an age-appropriate condition, unfortunately), and am not too familiar with the various ways that recent technology can help me deal with these goals. I'm also a cheapskate -- so I'm looking for a low cost solution.

Can anyone suggest some VoIP options (1) that will run on my Smartbook, (2) that will address my basic objectives, and (3) that will be inexpensive.

Might I suggest Mumble -direct voip communication, no pc-to-landline- or ekiga. Both work fine on the smartbook.
