With Efikamx Smartbook and the Genesi last update of Ubuntu Maverick of the 7th December, we have Gnome and the default battery applet of Gnome. With the previus version of Maverick for Efikamx Smartbook we had xfce on xubuntu and the battery applet was showing wrong time left and correct percentage, but with the last update you don't see the time or the percentage on the panel bar.
I have found that the Gnome future appplet for battery is Battery Status http://live.gnome.org/BatteryStatus and for ubuntu for install it is sufficient to:
Code:
# add-apt-repository ppa:iaz/battery-status
# apt-get update
# apt-get install battery-status
logout and login and you will add battery-status applet to the panel and you will see the battery-status that show correct the battery percentage!

A "PPA" is a Personal Package Archive for Ubuntu. "iaz" is probably a GNOME developer, and this is his build location for new stuff.

Having a new battery applet for GNOME seems very odd, and Ubuntu don't use even the old battery applet for GNOME (instead using the global "indicator applet") - I wouldn't install the new battery status one if I were you.

There are bugs in the kernel driver right now which would better be fixed than replacing parts of userspace. Stay tuned..
