It looks nice; MPD looks like a neat idea. My current music collection fits into about 12 GB so I would prefer to copy it to a large SDHC if I had an EFIKA. Do you need to power the HDD separately ? If the SDHC interface is fast enough it would save power, space and maybe a power socket.

Can MPD stream the music to a client ? I can imagine streaming music from the MX to an iPod touch.

I use flac compression, which takes quite a lot of space, so my collection does not fit on an SD card. The HDD, which does not need any additional power source, uses ~1W.

MPD can't stream, but there are many streaming applications. I'll try them once I have a little time again. I don't have any Apple products (except for an USB cable :-) ), so I'll need to find a Linux client for testing...

There is one streaming app I remember trying: ampache. It's easy to setup, but requires apache + php + mysql...

Someone told me that MPD can stream so I checked http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Features

MPD says it supports Shoutcast/MP3, Shoutcast/Ogg Vorbis output plugins so it should be possible to stream.

Probably not worth streaming FLAC (?)

Wow, strange. Up until now I thought, that what's written at http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/What_MPD_Is_and_Is_Not is true, I mean, that there is no streaming. But the bottom of the configuration page has an example for streaming. Ubuntu has the right version, so I tested it, but mpd fails to start without an error message, if streaming is enabled...
