i have had gentoo installed as the primary OS on my ibook g4 since the day i got it.

a happy crux use here, and no desire for switching to anything else.

I am still a PPC fan and that is sad to read this quite realistic state. That's true we don't have desktop machines since the last models of Mac, Pegasos and AmigaOne, PowerStation, ...

There was an interest with the PS3 but Sony closed the door ...

I run a Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 but I don't know really if this distribution is being continued or not.

Unfortunately even if someone made one, not enough people would buy it. There are far too many people out there who want PowerPC to succeed in theory and too few who will run out and buy one - mostly because they are Mac fans, and bought a MacBook Air and an iPhone by now, and are not looking back except wistfully and nostalgically.

The best affordable PPC you'll get these days is under 1GHz, limited amount of soldered-down RAM, and less expandability than you'd like. It couldn't possibly compete with a $399 eMachines box or a Dell Zino. Not having any mainstream Linux distributions support it anymore has killed PowerPC on the desktop, basically.

there is some hope, sam440 is still around, and now there is the sam460 with pcie. i think those are a little pricy, i was kinda thinking about getting one.

Don't forget the Amiga PA Semi box ... just kidding ...

My EFIKA PPC is still in daily use, it is my router / firewall. It runs openSUSE.

well, i use CruxPPC too and i'm happy. I've tested a lot of distro but only from CRUX PPC and Gentoo I received a quite good support from really skilled ppl (forum/ml).
