i was waiting for the new pegasos with MPC8610D but seems it will be awhile before it comes out. thinking i might try the current efika with linux and morphos to see how i like it. i have never used amiga.

can it play movies with linux or morphos? since efika doesnt have a dvd drive, i will probably mount it over nfs.

i read that linux with X is kinda slow, if i can web browse, play music, and check email i think i will be fine. i use xfce4 now. anyone try windowmaker on it?

matt

Efika + Linux = not suited for X desktop env. Efika have **only** 128Mb (which to my taste is a bunch of memory...) and somewhat limited horsepower. Depend on how you spend it... My experience shows 50% cpu consumption for moving the mouse pointer over a firefox window. Efika + Linux = well suited for server (read : console). If can manage to live with a glued user interface... I can't ;)

Some vids shows morphos playing dvd like quality stream fluent. Don't expect HD. Efika + Morphos = suited for desktop env. Efika + Morphos = not suited for server.

Choose your side :)

Hi.

well, Linux can be made to work well on the Efika though...
Check this screencapture:
http://robotics.puv.fi/efika/screen2/screen.html

It's this project:
http://projects.powerdeveloper.org/project/efika/338

Of course, some programs run on the server (such as FireFox, OpenOffice) but others like e.g., Abiword, Opera, Gnumeric, Audacious, etc. run on the Efika itself. The user interface is ROX.

Best regards,
Johan
