Hi all,
I took the Crux PPC 2.2.0.2 ISO, copied all the files to a USB hard drive, and was able to install Curx on my Efika. Was painless once I realised I needed to add the rootdelay=10 option to the kernel arguments!
I elected to use the pre-compiled zImage-Efika kernel on the CD to save myself the time of compiling a new kernel. So I copied the kernel file and the System.map-Efika to the hard disk.
Now my system is booting okay, but it is extremely slow to load the kernel. Here's what I'm seeing right now:
kernel load (#'s on the screen) = 2 minutes 27 sec
kernel boot (text after #'s) = 4 sec
init scripts (including net) = 23 sec
I initially thought my slow boot times were due to the USB interface, and was hoping things would impouve once I got everything installed on the HD. They did improve a bit, but seems to be an awfully long time to load a 2.2Mb kernel! :(
Is there anything that I need to do to improve this? Should I just bite the bullet and compile a new kernel?
Seems to me that I saw someone mention a kernel load time of roughly 5-6 seconds with a 6Mb kernel... So I must be doing something wrong!
I am hoping to get a cross development environment set-up so I can cross compile from my XP laptop, but that's a whole other story...
Any insight would be helpful!!! Thanks!
Sandy
