Hi !
Has anyone tried the latest Gentoo 2006.1 install CDs ?

It seems that it contains 2.6.17 kernel.

2.6.17.what? The later 2.6.17 kernels are much better than the early ones.

I have been using the 2006.1 profile for over a month and have not had any problems.

Strange, because in Gentoo's download section, it's still Gentoo 2006.0.

Anyway, Gentoo 2006.1 can be found here :
http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml

The sad thing is that the Gentoo 2006.0 and 2006.1 LiveCDs are only available on x86. It's really easier to install Gentoo with that CD. I did use it on x86 and the install was done really fast.

I would really like a Gentoo 2006.1 LiveCD for PPC.

Why are Gentoo 2006.x LiveCD not available for Pegasos PPC ?

SSQ : do you have a PVR card ?

Anyway, I plan trying a fresh install so...

Unfortunately the partitioning tool wasn't ready yet. Support for amiga partitions still needs a bit of work iirc. The 2007.0 release should bring us a LiveCD for PPC too.

You may expect some experimental stuff sooner than 2007.0

I've downloaded 2006.1 Universal CD and tried it.
But, I can't launch any install from it :

I boot with "boot cd boot/menu", I select option 4 then during kernel load I have this error :

The hardware clock does not contain a valid time, so we cannot adjust it. The hardware clock does not contain a valid time we cannot set a system time from it.
* Failed to set system clock to hardware clock
* Failed to start /etc/init.d hardware clock

Then the only option I have is to enter a root password that I don't know or CTRL+D.

If I do a CTRL+D, I can continue the install but the clock is set to 0:0:0
Then I have clock errors everywhere !

Any hints ?
Note that the clocks works in Ubuntu.

no problem with the minimal CD, it boots fine.
I always use the minimal one and do an install from the web, so i'm sure to get latest portage and stuff.
I haven't tried the universal one.

It seems it's rubish...
Then I have other problems (/etc/resolv.conf is empty, ... etc...)

I'm going to try the minimal CD (too bad I don't have empty CDs anymore !)
