Hi!

I'll post here a copy of what I posted to the Gentoo forums WITHOUT getting replies... Since I know that here someone has used the experimental ebuild for xorg-6.9cvs...

I'm posting only part of the error messages because the bullsh_t is only this:

How do I fix it? The file is in "extras/Mesa/include/GL/internal": do I have to copy it into the (non-existant) directory "lib/GL/internal"?

I would try it myself, but I'm fearing another failure during emerge... :evil:

It happens to me all the time. :)

Did you un-install Xorg-6.8? Maybe there is conflict with 6.8.

Do you mean it can't be installed unless I uninstall xorg-6.8? And that you did that to get the new compiled? Hmm... I'll try it!

I'm writing from links2...
I unmerged previous xorg, but encountered the same error compiling the experimental ebuild for 6.9!
What can I do!? HELP!

Well... No, I can't do it in text mode!
I'm now writng from a livecd and I'm going to do the long-awaited re-install.
Do you really think experimental xorg-6.9 is better than xorg-7?
I would now prefer to risk a modular xorg-7 install, but I don't know how to unmask it...
If the moderators allow it, I would like to use this thread to get some help during the system re-installation process...
For example, I don't understand why should I use stage3 to bootstrap, as stated in the new ppc gentoo handbook...
Aaron, did you use a different method? Is the stage1 tarball really useless?

They are generationally the same, they are just packaged differently. It is definately better than Xorg-6.8.

As far as Xorg-7.0 goes, I couldn't get a working installation. There are many packages that are not keyworded for PPC. I hacked the ebuilds of those packages to add the ~ppc keyword, but I couldn't get it to work in spite of successful compilations.

I installed 6.9 on my fresh install, so maybe that is why I didn't run into problems with it.

I used Stage 1 when I did my re-install.

It seems the Gentoo devs are not supporting Stage 1 or 2 anymore. You can read more about it here.

I am not qualified to say if Stage 1 is useless or not.

Another way to go is to do a Stage 3 intall, then emerge --emptytree world after you are done.

Ok, I did a stage3 install but then bootstrapped and emerged "-e system", so it's equivalent to stage1...
I'm configuring the kernel now and wanted to try vanilla instead of gentoo.
I was wondering if it could be a good idea or not...
Then I'll have to deal with modular xorg-7 I think... If I can't get it working I'll retry xorg-6.9.

Well, returned now from the disco and... puff! Problem solved: modular xorg-7 emerged succesfully!
I haven't tried it yet, but I will post something about performance.

EDIT: Aaron, would you send me (rrrockman[at]tiscali.it) a copy of your xorg.conf? I didn't remember to backup mine and I also know the layout of the file changed a bit since 6.8. Thanks!
