You should have the package sane-utils installed. In this there is a tool, find-scanner, which you should run to detect your scanner. Assuming you have a /dev/sga or similar device node, then the find-scanner tool should detect your scanner.

Hi,

You should check the permissions of the device file /dev/sgx that is assigned to your scanner.

Run as root the sane-find-scanner command (from the sane-utils package) and it should detect
your scanner. Then run the same command as a normal user and if it doesn't detect your scanner,
add the read permission for all to the /dev/sgx file.
