Post subject:  Debian Squeeze Install Failure

I recently tried this method of clean installing Debian Squeeze on my smartbook that was running Maverick Ubuntu. After completing all steps the smartbook would not boot. I can still boot in Debian off the SD card, but I cannot boot to the internal SSD and I am unable to reinstall maverick (I get a black screen when rebooting with a maverick install SD inserted).

How can i reinstall Maverick or get Debian Squeeze working on the smartbook?

Thanks,
Logan

Hey

to get maverick back download http://www.powerdeveloper.org/asset/by-id/127, extract and dd to a SD card, insert and it should take you throught the install process.

Not sure, what went wrong with the squeeze install...do you get any messages on the screen?

Let us know if this works

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried reinstalling maverick using that method, but the installer does not start. I either get a black screen or a blinking cursor at the top left.

I can occasionally get squeeze to run from an SD, but it will only boot 25% of the time.

I'm not sure how boot order works on the efika, but could it have to do with that?

Just a shot in the dark here (I've never run into this one myself) but. If you can boot squeeze from a SD card 25% of the time then I would try booting squeeze and zeroing out /dev/sda using something like dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=1M You shouldn't have to zero the entire disk, just enough to blow away any partition/filesystem info.

Then I would try booting the maverick installer SD card again and see if that solves your problem.

(This is all assuming that the contents of the SSD are somehow the problem and not something else)
