Post subject:  Boot failure with my Debian Install: FATAL Please help!

Hi guys

When going to boot Debian on my Peg2 I get the following error message upon booting (then it freezes there)

Modprobe: FATAL Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.6-powerpc/kernel/fs/ext2/ext2.ko : no such file or directory..

Please help.. it doesnt sound good and I hope its not a filesystem problem as we all know there apparently are no filesystem repair/recovery tools for ppc linux...

:x

any help i appreciated - ATM i'm using my 2.4 kernel but really need my 2.6 working for productive work.

It might help if you have that file on your disk. The best kernels to use are the 2.6.8 or higher ones - anything less is less mature for Pegasos and may not be fully functional. You can get them DIRECTLY from Debian apt respositories (the powerpc kernel works). There is a quirk involving "mkvmlinuz" which I will let someone else explain...

Thanks for your reply.

After further investigation, that file DOES exsist. So now, i have a problem for real

I even copied the file from a backup of that dir and it still came up with this error.

If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it as I'm using the 2.4 kernel atm and dont want to use the newer kernels as I have special configs working fully here..
